thanksgiving

October 13, 2010 by Ella

We celebrated Thanksgiving earlier this weekend. It was the perfect weather actually, so it was a surprise we didn’t do an outdoor event – but we figured it would be hard to carry out a turkey dinner down a flight of stairs, through out basement and out to the backyard… but the autumn warmth of about 25C sure was begging us to do it ;)

My husband and I prepared the dinner, pretty much all by ourselves – yup! and I think we did a fantastic job. He did the things carnivores eat, and I did the things that vegans, gluten-free and anti-candida people eat ;)  Overall, it’s great to throw a dinner that keeps everyone happy. For once, I was full from a feast and enjoyed more than one recipe and even scrumptious dessert ;) (for those secrets you will need to wait a bit more… )

thanksgiving-dinnerBeing busy with cooking and baking – I absolutely had no time decorating the place in a grand way. But I still wanted some impact created with the little amount of time and money I had. Drawing inspiration wasn’t hard – I just had to look outside… and grabbed my daughter for a nice morning stroll and to catch some fresh air – leaving the pots and pans in the kitchen bubbling and cooking away… with supervision, of course.

We ended up grabbing a bunch of leaves and branches – and that was IT! For $0 we were able to create a great decor scheme for our dinner, just in time before our guests arrived. I just hooked some of the branches around my chandelier and then put some long-stemmed leaves and tucked them into little white vases and set those on the table. Little glass votives and a pumpkin were also placed neatly on the linen tablecloth. Under each place setting, I used beautiful branch-like place mats with white dishes all around. All together it looked great with real nature elements and textures.

Thankfully we didn’t – which left us with the perfect centre piece pumpkin – it just needed some extra finishing detail – – to that rescue, came my daughter with a Sharpie marker ;)

Still to come! Our Thanksgiving Family Tree Craft and recipes for an amazing vegan and gluten free Pumpkin Cake with apples and walnuts, Butternut Squash Puree soup, Lentil Vegan Pate, and way more…

Wishing you a lovely DAY with lots of SUNSHINE ;D

PS. My graphic leaves are supposed to be Maple leaves and not Marijuana leaves – just to make that clear ;D lol

Your table was lovely, and I love the glimpses into your home, too!

I love that you were able to decorate with fall foliage for your thanksgiving. Ours comes so darn late that all the foliage is LONG gone!
