I’ve been oohing and aahing over a new kitchen design. Ours is a little dated right now (ok. not so little). We knew we would have to replace it when we were buying the house. Now it’s been two years – and still no new kitchen. I am however, daydreaming up a new design and it’s a lot of fun preparing myself for that biggest-reno-of-your-life project. Here are some gorgeous inspirational kitchens. Do you see a pattern here??? ;)
Yes, white, white, white and more WHITE. I love the look of these light and airy kitchens. White evokes a sense of calm, purity and cleanliness that is soo good to have in a kitchen.
Did you pick up on another pattern? Right. No cabinets on top. I am trying to convince my husband that this is the way to go, that upper cabinets are difficult to get at, that lower, more functional cabinets or drawers are a way to go. I also find the look with no cabinets on top makes the kitchen look larger and brighter. And don’t get me started on painted floors…. lov’em!
These kitchens are from Scandinavian homes (source) – will this light and airy feel be suitable for a North American home??? I say YES, but will this design increase the value of our home or be seen like it’s unfinished? Hm… people live here so differently than they do in Europe. All I know is that I would feel SPECTACULAR enjoying myself in a kitchen like this – – PLUS, let’s be honest, avoiding the upper cabinets would slash the cost of a kitchen reno in almost half. Hello! That is amazing. It means if we adapt this trend here in North America – new trendy kitchens will be popping up everywhere across the country.
What are your thoughts on a kitchen like this? Plus, any advice in how to convince a husband to go ahead with a kitchen reno, please reveal your secrets.

Well, with the white kitchen you wouldn’t have to worry about letting your daughter paint, right? I can’t believe she doesn’t make a mess with it. That’s crazy!
I can certainly appreciate the beauty of a white kitchen, but my preference is warmth. Rich woods, and warm granite.

Those kitchens are beautiful and inspiring. I especially love the gray floor in the second one. I love lots of light and an airy feel. There is no way I could have a white kitchen. I just know it would be splattered with tomato sauce within five minutes of being installed. My family issues aside, I say go for it!
