Healthy Chia Waffles Recipe from the Cut the Sugar Cookbook

February 26, 2016 by Ella

Are waffles on your mind lately?… I do hope so! Without those beauties – my cookbook Cut the Sugar just wouldn’t be the same without waffles recipe!

And today, I’m excited to share my easy waffles !  These are what you’d call healthier waffles that actually can be breakfast as opposed to dessert (I would especially reserve these for the weekend!) These Chia Waffles are naturally gluten free and dairy free/ vegan and use toppings like pureed fruit and whipped coconut. And best of all – they’re SO delicious!!

Waffles are truly my favourite most-indulgent breakfast (or dessert!) It’s just pure happiness on a plate! Right? So, it was a huge deal to share a healthier waffles recipe – this was so important to me personally because I really really wanted to keep eating them BUT I knew that I could no longer have dessert for breakfast! So this just wins on all fronts!

Plus, I have fond memories of getting this beautiful waffle iron for Mother’s Day about 2 years ago when I was pregnant with Mia! (I already shared my love of small appliances over diamonds before) so this was just perfect! As if that wasn’t enough, I styled them on these gorgeous plates from Anthropologies ~ basically there’s just so much happiness in this photo from my waffles recipe – I am so happy  ended up becoming the cover of the Cut the Sugar book!! :)

There’s a lot of exciting feedback coming in about the book and I am so smitten with hearing from all of you lovely people!

Please do add a review to Amazon.com if you haven’t already – it means the world to me to get feedback and to help others make a purchase and discover the book! Please and thank you! :) The price on Amazon.com lately is staying around $16 so I think it’s a great price! Also, I hear this book makes a great gift!! :) (buy it now)

Is there a replacement for your flour? Those products are hard to find and expensive, could u use coconut flour or almond flour?

      Hi Laura,
A good replacement would be oat flour (1 3/4 cups) instead of all the flour. (look for certified gluten-free if avoiding gluten is important to you).
If you’re not on a strict gluten-free diet, you could also use light spelt flour with great results. Hope that helps. xo

I made these last week and they were incredible! My mom and I are obssesed. However, I tried making them again this morning and it turned out very different- my batter was incredibly thick, and it didn’t cook all the way through. Any good tips for troubleshooting?

    Xo, Gabrielle
