surviving the weekend

Well hello! Don’t be alarmed by the photo you see. We’re fine ;) But, yes I was in a car accident this weekend but there’s good news in the bad situation. No one got hurt!

It was a wet Friday evening, I was having a fairly nice drive with my daughter (considering) to my sister’s for the weekend. My daughter was singing a few of her lovely original tunes and talking out loud of beautiful unicorns and magical fairies the whole way through and I was listening and smiling…. There was a moment I thought, thank goodness there’s no accident right now that would make us stuck in traffic. Bad weather like this causes accidents.

And a bad accident it did cause – just moments later….

I was making a left turn on a busy intersection…. I was ready to make my turn… this lady didn’t stop on the red light… ‘oh oh, honey, we’re going to crash’ I said in my normal tone to my daughter not trying to alarm her. There was a boom and crazy smoke I didn’t expect – I thought the car would blow up! It was the air bag gas – wish someone told me it’s that bad. My head was clear though, I experienced the whole thing in slow motion and was really in the moment – I didn’t panic – which surprised even me. I looked back at my daughter – she looked just fine. I worked fast to get my door opened, ran around to get her “what happened” she asked in her sweet little tone…. It was all great after that…. shaken and stirred – but alright. The lady who ran the red light admitted that she stepped on the gas to make it through the light, not realizing she already had the red. All her passengers were fine, which included 2 little kids. People, when you have little kids in the car, don’t rush – take your time and slow down when you see the yellow – especially on a nasty rainy dark evening.

One thing is very clear. This intersection is cursed for us. Would yo believe my husband was in an accident in this very same spot 10 years ago?

I really surprised myself at the glass-half-full approach to this. I was ‘happy’ in a weird sense that nothing worse happened. For my first time, and with my daughter in the car, I was really happy we were all ok, including the passengers in the other car.  I was embraced by the generous support of our community. People are so kind and sweet out there. Thank You.

Now, I am bursting with appreciation for life, in love, health and happiness.

How did you survive the weekend? I hope it was a good one for you too ;)
