We had a true Winter Wonderland this Christmas!
It was the most beautiful frozen world outside. Every little branch was coated with thick ice and everywhere you went it really felt like a magic winter fairy just flew by and froze every little nook and cranny…. ;)
I have never seen winter so beautiful like this! (and so destructive!)
We were lucky that we had nowhere to rush and stayed home in the comfort of heat and electricity. So many homes, about 20% of all of Toronto was without power. Their Christmas cancelled completely as people had to evacuate from their homes. For some it was a way to be closer and longer with their families… but not everyone was this lucky I’m sure.
Outside it was only -1, quite lovely really! I took a walk with my sister on this beautiful day just behind our house. Mind you, you could hardly walk as the ice spilled everywhere… so it was really quiet, completely still in fact and calm with only the strangest clatter of frozen branches swaying in the wind. Then boom, branches breaking and shattering like weapons to the ground.
I have never seen nature so beautiful yet so destructive at the same time. Even now in our backyard, there’s massive branches that have fallen victims to this wild winter. Luckily we have five huge maple trees, so a few large branches will not hurt the beauty of our garden so much come spring – but still, it was painful to watch and listen to the loud crack of the frozen branches falling down… Some of our neighbours with their pretty decorative trees in the front yards are still in pain from the devastation.
Still, I thought it was the most beautiful calm landscape right before my eyes… the most spectacular Winter Wonderland…
Are you enjoying Winter so far? Has she treated you well?
I hope you’re staying cozy and warm! (And if you’re in the south – well then… you’re missing out! ;)

I live in Scotland, and for my first winter here I was fully confident we would have snow. Nope. Rain. Lashing rain. Floods all over the country (thankfully nowhere my family, friends or myself were staying). Hopefully it will snow in January and/or February because I really want to go outside for long walks in the snow, it’s one of my favourite things to do in the winter.

Hi! Thanks for stopping by ;)
It’s so nice to hear about the weather in different parts of the world… you make rain sound really nice actually – probably because it’s sounds like it would be nicer in Scotland ;)
But it sounds warm and that is so good – we’ve been having -30 temps. and it’s so bad we can’t really be outside. I could trade this for a rainy day anytime ;)
Here’s hoping you get your magical snowy walk before spring comes ;)
Be well! xo ella

What a lovely photographic spread in black + white, simply an enchanting Winter Wonderland and you look like the Queen of Winter Wonderland already – beauty! We had about few inches of snow in late November in Oregon, and the highway roads were icy to drive on, but melted a week later. I enjoyed these snowy days! Stay warm and wishing you a fantastic 2014, Ella! xx
Ella says
Rika, you’re so cute with the Queen of Winter Wonderland ;) I could be that for a day I guess ;) lol
