“The family that plays together stays together.” – that is a quote that comes to mind when I think of what to do when we’re all together on a day off. Taking the time to plan family activities all together is so beneficial to your relationship as a family. It will strengthen your bond, open up communication and create fond memories.
So when the opportunity comes up that you’re all home together and the question ‘what do we do today?’ comes up – well, what do you do? Do you plan things far in advance and schedule it in the family calendar? Are you all spontaneous and just pull out something up your sleeve the day of? When the day off comes, do you just kick back with some playtime at home? Or maybe even just sit on the couch and chill a little with a family flick? (there are so many good ones now ;)
For us, there’s really no rules what we do and how we plan it. If it is something that we want to do with the extended family or with our friends and their kids, then yes, we plan it far in advance so that everyone has enough notice. Other than that, we kind of just wait on the mood it hits us – we’ve learned that we can’t force fun and sometimes something restful is what the day calls for.
So my friends, please share you ideas and activities that you enjoy as a family – so that maybe others may borrow ;) Or maybe you’ve planned things that didn’t go too well and you’ve learned some tough lessons…. So please share in the comments below:
What are your favourite family activities?
By the way, We’re enjoying a Family Day long weekend right now, (only the second time in it’s short history) – hence the theme for today’s post. So this is all new and exciting to get a day off right smack in the middle of Winter. Yeah! So what do we do today? ;D (fyi: it’s 9 am and both my husband and my daughter are still asleep). lol. I think it will be one of those restful days…. ;) xo

We love walks in the woods, gathering random things we find, volley ball, camping, bomb fires & roasting marshmallows, making cakes & cupcakes together to name a few, riding bikes on the trails. But we are like you, when the mood hits..go with it!

All these things sound good Gina. I’m all for the bonfire and marshmellows – we only have the like once a year when we’re camping….
Thanks for stopping by. xo

9 am?? Nice! I miss the days that Noah slept until 9 or 10am. Cami has never been one to sleep in. Oh well. We really enjoyed Camping as a family, going on walks together or riding bikes. We also all draw together, which is so precious to watch Chris interact with the kids when he draws. Oh, also hitting the coffee shop on our way to the park is one of our favorite summer/fall activities since Cami was about 18 mos. :-)

I like the coffee shop stop with the kids. Why not. We don’t really do that but I think if would be a fun family time and the grown ups would feel good in an adult surrounding ;) And your husband draws? You should dedicate a post to his talent ;)
