Who doesn’t love the pretty lovely happy look of spring blooms. It is Spring after all, but clearly it’s not spring-like enough in these parts. On a recent long walk on our trails around our home, first of it’s kind this season, we found little pockets of green leaves popping up. That was exciting. But still not enough…
With this excitement of waiting for the real deal, I went on a mission hunt on my next walk. With my pruners and father in law and daughter, we went out to bring in spring – forcefully.
The pruners for cutting, the f-i-l for carrying and the daughter for cheerleading. Mission accomplished. But still no spring.
Forcing branches is a great way to jump start spring. Obviously only in the northern parts where it’s needed most. Those of you who have been slapping colourful blooms for a month now, not to mention those of you where snow is never ever seen – this obviously wouldn’t apply nor would it be necessary. You see, for me this isn’t just necessary – it’s a another form of therapy because more snow is in the forecast ;) (and yes, my windows need a good wash ;0)
To get the real scoop of Forcing Branches read more here. But for the most part, most types of shrubs or trees that do bloom will force bloom nicely indoors. You’ll get pretty blooms in about a week’s time. Get cutting and enjoy waiting for your magnolias to bloom.
How do you bring in an early feel of spring?

We don’t have spring either. I just bought some tulips to add a touch of spring.
Cutting branches though sounds great :-)

Hi Ella ~ Good for you for forcing spring-time’s hand a bit! I was sorry to hear you haven’t been feeling well. I feel so far behind on my blog reading ~ just a lot of other junk going on right now.
As far as making spring happen, it kind of does its own thing here in Arizona. I was in California last weekend and the blossoms on the trees were AMAZING!!! I have a blog post to finish up for tomorrow with photos.
Anyway! Can’t wait to see your pictures of these interesting looking branches in bloom once they have done their thing. Loves!!!xo
