I like to think of myself as a CREATIVE & CRAFTY person. I always have been creative but the latter… um… not so much. Or at least not as much as I would like to be. I blame all this lack of craftiness on the #1 excuse in the world. NO TIME. And so I though… how do I get back to a crafty groove without getting wrapped up in some overwhelming project from scratch??? Well, why not skip the SCRATCH part and just tweak something you already have – maybe you’re not so crazy about anymore – or you want to upcycle into something new and refreshing.
That’s what I did with this peasant strapless top I’ve had for a while. I got it on sale and didn’t even try it on at the store. But I liked it enough to risk it and only at home I reminded myself that CREAM IS NOT MY COLOUR. But for $5 I wasn’t upset. I loved the embroidery and the style – I knew it had potential…… It just waited patiently for it’s reincarnation.
I felt this top wanted to be HAPPIER – and I knew it would love nothing more than to run around in the wind, be brushed against hand picked wild flowers and occasionally have delicious stains of chocolate ice cream all over it.
What I did: is pretty simple. Anyone can pull this one off ;) I took in the sides slightly to create a slimmer body (see top photos), and I cut off the excess. (I recommend to try it on your model first before trimming the sides). I had hand sown a cream coloured string for the tie around the neck. Pretty simple.
The little top lived happily ever after as it turned into a beautiful dress. It had so much love around it that it was never sad and lonely again. The End.
