It’s Smoothie time! We have a bit of a ritual that when we come home, me and my gal from JK, and it’s still too early for lunch – we make smoothies! We both get excited and the big girl gets to dump in the ingredients (sorry no cute photos of that process this time). These are just too quick to make and then they’re so good we don’t want to slow things down with a photoshoot. Luckily I persevered this time and snapped a few before I gobbled mine up.
There’s a huge variety we make – and they’re not just Smoothies – they’re SUPER-SMOOTHIES! You know like if a smoothie was a superhero made with super foods (which ours are), it would be a Super-Smoothie! So that’s what we make. Yup, we make food fun.
So you’re wondering ~ what can make your smoothie a SUPER-SMOOTHIE? Well, as a health nut, or scratch that, but my strikethrough doesn’t work. So as a health-conscious woman and mom, I want the best for me and my body as well as for my child (and the husband too, but he’s usually not around when we make our batch. sorry hun).
To make a smoothie a Super-Smoothie – these are some of the ingredients that qualify for superhero status:
Choco-nana Super-Smoothie
{vegan & gluten free}
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 cups almond milk (blue diamond)
- 1/2 tsp organic cinnamon (planet organic)
- 1-2 tsp organic raw cacao powder (navitas)
- 1 spoonful serving of brown rice protein powder (heartland)
- 1 banana
double the servings for a larger batch. these are just rough measurements. we never really measure. mix in a blender or I like to place all the ingredients in my glass jar from a french press and use a handheld blender. serve right away.
Like I said, we make many varieties of Super-Smoothies all with a different focus. How do I decide which one we should make? (well, unless my daughter beats me to it).
I look at what we (or she) had for breakfast. If she had cereal for breakfast (which is usually the case because we’re pressed for time), then I know she’s low on protein, and I know she’s not hungry yet, because it’s only 11:30 am and she had a snack in JK. Then I know a Super-Smooothie is the best protein-rich, nutritious option for our pre-lunch shake.
I love the Brown Rice from Heartland as my best protein powder. It is made from organic sprouted, non-gmo grains, it is free of gluten, soy and lactose. It has 16 grams of protein per scoop. It is sweetened with Stevia and has natural Vanilla flavour.
The Nativas Cacao Powder is a Mayan Superfood. It is Raw Chocolate Powder which contains a rich supply of vitamins and minerals that include beta-carotene, zinc and magnesium. It also contains more antioxidant flavonoids than blueberries, red wine and green tea.
The Almond Breeze original almond milk is my go-to alternative to milk. I stock up on these like hot-cakes. Love this milk alternative and recommend it to everyone looking for alternatives or just wanting to switch things up occasionally.
The cinnamon is a fantastic nutritional add-on. We love the flavour and I like that it’s rich in manganese, fiber, iron, and calcium and it improves memory and cognitive functions. And is fantastic for treating Candida.
The banana adds a great smoothie texture – we love that and it’s usually the best fruit to add natural sweetness. Bananas are rich in potassium – brain nutrient! (however, on the anti-candida diet, I don’t recommend eating lots of bananas)
…..
Now you know why this SUPER-SMOOTHIE ain’t no ordinary smoothie?
It’s great to learn about how foods can help us get healthier, stronger and even improve brain function ~ hello, who wouldn’t want to think more clearly?. A super delicious and chocolatey smoothie looks and tastes great – no one would even think it has superhero properties! And even my daughter loves calling them Super-Smoothies!
Do I get a Super-Mom cape for that? ;)
Do you like making smoothies? What’s your favourite?

Hello it, although I have not come to greet you lately, I’ve read. I’m short on time and if you see something even I have abandoned my blog, but I would love to go to say hello.

I love the banana/cacao/”milk” combo, makes such delicious and satisfying smoothies! I’ve never seen the rice protein powder though. I think I just might go on the hunt for it ;)
