Say hello to fall and all its beautiful glory and say hello to this amazingly delicious gluten free, dairy free and sugar free Pear & Pecan Crumble!
I made this recipe recently for my husband’s birthday. It was a wednesday night and we played it low key. He did not want cake or anything fancy with candles and a song attached (that’s just his style and I’ve grown to respect that) (hashtag whatever) (who doesn’t want to blow out a candle on their birthday??) But anyway…. I did sneak off to the kitchen to make a quick dessert. And I’m glad we did. It was the perfect dessert for our evening. Low-key but oh boy did it offer a burst of deliciousness!
Pears are the best to cook with or bake if you want a quick dessert – because they don’t have to be peeled. Unlike apples that have a tougher skin that needs to/ should be peeled in a dessert. Pears have a super thin skin that hardly gets detected in a baked dish.
If you’ve ever questioned how to make an impressive and delicious dessert in no time OR how to make an easy crumble – it’s all right here in this post!
That’s why I was able to pull this dessert off in about 10 minutes. Then popped it in the oven and forgot about it for half an hour – then, voila! I took out this beauty hot out of the oven and served it up.
That’s why I loved making this crumble, it offers that wow factor for both the speedy turn around and the amazing taste! Not to mention that it’s made with healthier ingredients that are actually good for you! Yes to all, right?
Gluten free, Sugar free Pear & Pecan Crumble
A quick, simple and healthier crumble recipe that’s naturally free of gluten, dairy and refined sugar.
Ingredients :
4 pears
3/4 cup pecans or other nut
1 cup rolled oats (certified gluten free if avoiding gluten is important to you)
1/2 cup coconut oil, cold/ hardened
1/2 cup coconut palm sugar
3-4 tablespoons powdered stevia
Directions :
Wash and core out the pears and dice into small cubes. Spread into the bottom of a baking dish and set aside.
Preheat oven to 350 F.
To make the crumble in a food processor; process the nuts and oats until the nuts break down. (some texture in the nuts is fine so just pulse for a few seconds.) Add oil and sweeteners and continue mixing until the ingredients are incorporated. Adjust the sweetness level to your liking.
To make this recipe without a food processor; simply chop the nuts with a knife on a cutting board and incorporate the crumble ingredients in one big bowl.)
Spread the crumble over the pears and place in the oven. Bake for about 40 minutes or until top is golden. Serve hot or cold from the fridge.
Notes :
If using non-organic pears, it’s best to peel them anyway to remove some of the pesticides that may have been used.
To make it nut free : simply omit the nuts.
Freezing suggestions : It’s great to make the crumble ahead of time and freeze until ready to bake.I keep my crumble in a plastic freezer ziploc bag so it stays loose and doesn’t form into a shape of a container. It makes dessert-making a snap and you won’t be tempted into buying dessert at stores. (those may have questionable ingredients with preservatives and artificial flavouring and colouring). But it’s easier to walk away from all the sweets at the store if you know that a quick to bake crumble is in your freezer. Just sprinkle over fruit from frozen and bake as instructed above. I would not suggest to freeze an already baked crumble and then thaw out – this version will get soggy and not as appealing.
This was a great crumble dessert that’s been on repeat these past few weeks. I love it that it’s made with great healthy ingredients so I feel comfortable giving it to my kids (baby included) and I also don’t have much guilt about going for seconds.
And this crumble recipe is so easy and quick to make, I don’t know why anyone would buy dessert again!
I hope you’ll make it soon and will let me know how you enjoyed it!!

Happy birthday for your husband! This looks delicious! I have actually never baked with stevia, I’ll have to give it a try.

Thank you so much! :)
Yeah, stevia is great!!!
But it can have a bit of an aftertaste – however it’s undetected in this recipe, promise :)
