Now onto this next Super-Smoothie!
Did that give it away that there’s some super-foods hiding in there? You know it!
GOOD MORNING SUPER-SMOOTHIE | vegan
Ingredients :
1 very ripe banana
1 cup of almond milk (or other non-dairy unsweetened milk)
1 tablespoon of hemp hearts
1-2 teaspoons of raw maca powder
1-2 teaspoons of coconut nectar (or maple syrup) optional
Directions :
Blend all the ingredients together in a blender or I prefer using a larger container, in this case my measuring cup and using my hand held blender for mixing it up. The clean up is so quick!
Please note that Maca powder has stimulating properties and should not be served to kids. To make this smoothie for adults and kids, blend all the ingredients but the Maca, pour out a glass for your kiddo, then add the Maca and continue blending.
So what are the super powers of this smoothie. Well, first, the taste is so good and rich (you really don’t need the extra sweetener even). But taste alone is no super-power right?
Here’s the nutritional scoop and why this Smoothie possesses Super Powers:
Hemp Hearts:
packed with Omega 3 & 6 oils – great for brain health, Protein to give your muscles nourishment, Manganese – a vital mineral that helps with almost everything from bone healthy to digestion and brain health, Hemp Hearts are also loaded with iron, B6, folate, phosphorous, magnesium and zinc.
Raw Maca:
is rich is essential minerals, especially selenium, calcium, magnesium, iron and includes fatty acids including linolenic acid, palmitic acid and oleic acids and 19 amino acids (Amino Acids are the building blocks of proteins and help in metabolism. Proteins convert to amino acids during digestion.
Maca increases energy, builds physical strength, improves mood, reduces anxiety and heightens libido – for that reason it’s not recommended for kids as it may disrupt their perfect hormonal balance.
Almond milk:
packed in calcium, even more than their distant non-cousin, milk. And it won’t coat your insides in mucus, feed your candida, give you loads of sugar, and be allergy friendly.
Banana:
awesome super food. brain food that gives you great natural sugars. one banana has 13-15 grams of sugar (depending on its size) and that your serving! For this reason the agave nectar is completely unnecessary. Bananas help aid in everything from depression to stress and reduction in stroke risk.
So here’s to a Good Morning with a great tasting Super-Smoothie! Enjoy.
ps. not everyone is a smoothie type in the mornings, I realize that. Try switching things up once a while and you may not need to be an exclusive smoothie drinker for breakfast but the variety will make things more fun and provide you with a mix of great super-foods.
