family friday : a taste of spring

March 25, 2011 by Ella

Spring came this week. Yessss….. But it went away just as quickly as it came – at least in these parts. We are now trying to enjoy a snow covered city again with layered coats, warm hats and all the other winter essentials along with a cup of hot chocolate with marshmellows on top.

The only bit of colour we’re seeing is in these yellow little blossoms that I beat mother nature to bloom early (shown here in the small glass jar) (still waiting for the magnolias ;)…

But then there are these little bunches of happy little goodies on our kitchen table. Oh no, there’s actually none left by now – they were too good and too cute to have sit out for too long.

But that’s what we did this week. We made a nice batch of muffin batter (all natural vegan and gluten free ;) and we dressed them up to bloom with little pink flowers. We got a little taste of spring! And my little muffin did all the decorating by sticking the little artificial flowers into the muffins. She’s got an eye of a stylist – after her mommy ;)  We shared them with a friend and her daughter when we met up at the playground and everyone that saw them – just smiled and admired the cute factor ;)

(look for recipe post next week ;)

So, what was your Family highlight this week?
(share in the comments below and I may feature your highlight next week ;)

It was spring here too last week, and like you, winter came right back! Your pictures really make me think of spring, your daughter did a really good job! Looking forward to the recipe :)

I had a crazy-I-don’t-have-time-to-breathe kinda week. My only highlight this week, was my yoga class last night. It’s a little slice of heaven weather I’ve having a great or chaotic week, but this week was particularly crazy, to I really made sure I appreciated every second of that class.

    Have a great weekend!

These look beautiful! Hope spring returns soon. It’s been the highlight of our week but I think it’s about to be swapped for rain x

My highlight was picking my daughter up from the airport today- she was away for spring break. It is always good to have her back home!

of course your girl has the eye of a stylist–growing up with your influence! those look yummy. I am home with a sick girl today, so n’t wait till spring comes to STAY. Sick of being teased with warm weather then snow.

Oh, same here… winter just doesn’t seem to want to let go. Your muffins look gorgeous and I bet they tasted delicious. Maybe we’ll make muffins over here too and see if we can lure spring this way… to stay!
