As you know, we went for a little trip to Niagara Falls for the weekend. It was lovely to get away and spend some quality time – -separately ;) lol
Daddy was with his girl in Marineland
I was relaxing cottage-style at my mom’s house just 5 minutes from the Niagara Falls main attractions. But here, it felt as though I was up north in cottage country…
Yes this is the same day! And yes, I did feel guilty for not engaging in family fun. But you know what… it’s ok. Sometimes I need a little space to myself and just relax in my own way. At home I usually can’t do that – because laundry or other fun chore would be my activities – – and this way I truly found peace and quiet for the day. I even played with my camera and pulled some self-portraits – whooo – that is new. I am seeing a little inner spark happening with the confidence it’s building inside of me.
Beautiful serene surroundings + inner peace = happiness.
And yes, eventually the guilt (that I’m not out being a ‘mom’ and spending the day with my family) wore off ;) And eventually they came home and I caught up with my mommy duties… and then later, we went out for the fireworks display.
I hope you had a great weekend too!!!
And for all the moms out there – if you can have a day to yourself – take it! It is wonderful for mama to do. It clears the head, relieves any tension spots and it’s just nice to hear your own relaxed breathing for a change.
….and soon we’ll go to Marineland together this time ;)

Hi Ella ~ Looks like you guys had an awesome weekend! So glad to see that. Your photos are adorable, and let me be the first to say that you should not feel one bit guilty about nurturing yourself while your family goes off and enjoys time away from you. It’s good for every one of you!!! Have a fabulous week! xo

It looks like it was a perfect day for everyone! We sure do need some time to ourselves, and feeling guilty about it kind of defeats the purpose of relaxing and enjoying the day. We need moments like these to be better moms too. I love your self portraits by the way, the pictures turned out beautifully!

I have been invited to go on an all girls 12 mile kayak float in a couple weeks and have been contemplating wether I should go or not. I would be gone approx. 8 hours. But after reading this I think I should. It will give Dada and daughter some quality time together that they don’t have nearly enough of. Of course I will feel guilty but I know once I am there I will have a blast! Oh and thank you for the “food” tips the other day!

I know that mama guilt so well! I’ve been struggling with it a lot lately, because I’m feeling so burnt out on motherhood and homemaking. But every time I do get a little chance to relax on my own, either I don’t take it or I spend it trying to catch up on housework. It’s bizarre how much I crave a good break and yet I somehow always sabotage it for myself! Your trip looks lovely!!

I am looking forward to two whole days of being by myself, as my girls have a little visit with their grandparents. What will I do with all that time? probably a good bit of work, but there will be some “me” stuff sprinkled in there too.
I LOVE that middle shot of you in the “ella” collection of pix.
