DIY upcycling : pallets get a new life

March 23, 2011 by Ella

I am loving these inventive upcycling ideas for using pallets in the home. These are inexpensive but very creative looks for any space. Take a look at today’s round up of using pallet beds as functional furniture pieces.

Pallets are easy to update for a coffetable or a daybed – castors would usually do the trick nicely and a little paint job will give it a more polished look. Although that’s not as necessary as that rustic upcycled look is very hot right now anyway.

Here is the roundup: 1. one of my fave’s from Ashley Ann’s blog, Under the Sycamore, 2. Joridkvam, 3. Creature Comforts 4. Siljess Blog

Awesome right?

Flashback to 1999, I’m living with my future husband in his dad’s basement, and you’re thinking – why these personal details all of a sudden – well…. get this. We had a set of pallets under our bed! Yes we were so funky (or just poor) but I was a little inventive myself, a little ahead of my time because most of my friends though I had some serious issues – but hey, it was a really cool look even at the time – too bad I never took pics of it. So there you go. I have some upcycled pallet history way back to when it was still uncool to upcycle! Now it’s an inventive good-for-the-environment design solution you could be proud of.

Don’t know where to get a set of pallets? Talk to a few friends, they could be in the shipping business and could get you one for zero money, or call a local demolition garbage removal company or shipping company. They may have some that could be slightly damaged that they would be happy to pass on to a better life for you.

Happy Upcycling!

I love that headboard idea. We are currently headboard-less and I’ve been trying to come up with an idea to make one for cheap.

Reminds me of this post on Vintage Chica a while back.
