Good things take time and it’s not about perfectionistic results but being good to your body and mind and that means setting your own pace and leaving room for enjoying life! So just do the best you can!! :)
So today on the #cutthesugar challenge, we’re chatting about bitter foods and how they help cut sweet cravings! Did you know this?
So how is that possible?
Well when you think about it, bitter foods are the opposite of sweet foods – so if you’re eating lots of sugar – the natural way to cut that sweetness is with bitters! This is an ancient traditional Chinese medicine practice. Nothing I just imagined – but to me it makes a lot of sense and it really helped me cut cravings a lot when I was trying to reduce my sugar consumption.
I was a complete sugar junkie to the point that I couldn’t taste natural flavours of food anymore. Sweet things weren’t sweet enough sometimes!
So they help bring your tastebuds back to life and literally stop sweet cravings – just eat a fresh crispy tart radish when you get a craving and you’ll see what I mean!
Bitter foods, such as radishes, watercress, arugula, dandelion leaves, green tea also have a way to boost our digestion. Which is why drinking lemon water in the morning is always a good idea!
So when you you start eating more bitter foods, your tastebuds begins to change and the bitterness will make you much more sensitive to the sweetness of sugar in foods. This can help you to gradually decrease the sugar intake in your diet. And then you’ll be able to taste more sweetness in foods like in tomatoes red peppers and carrots! (I used to be completely numb to those flavours before).
So for today’s challenge, try adding bitter foods to your diet and especially when you have a really hard time cutting out sugar!
And do share how you’re enjoying these Cut the Sugar tips so far! :)
Have a great day! ella
