a pretty window {diy}

February 23, 2011 by Ella

This is what is dressing up my bay window  in my office these days. Do you like? Maybe you’re tired of seeing red roses from Valentine’s… well not me ;)  This did go up the weekend before Valentine’s Day but I didn’t have the energy to shoot it right away – it was a busy weekend I remember and there was no point in rushing to share this little thing with the world ;) If you’re wondering where I got these cute glass hanging vases – well, I would tell you – at a grocery store and they’re not glass! Feeling a bit puzzled? I think this image will explain:

I just love seeing beyond what an item is intended for and I especially examine interesting packaging and think – what can I do with you? And these lovely Coca-Cola bottles, that were hanging around since Christmas – have finally gotten a way to be reused, revived and look beautiful again ;)

To Do: rinse the Coca Cola ball bottles, peel off label and remove cap and plastic ring, wrap some thin wire around the neck and hang in a favourite place (I hung mine to a drapery rod), fill with water and add in cute buds!
:: don’t have these cute ball bottles around anymore – how about using baby food jars? I think that would be also pretty ;)

What a way to up-cycle and feel good about reusing something that would go into the trash. I’m loving my window of roses and I hope you’re inspired to turn some trash into something pretty. xo

    What a great idea! They look gorgeous. I hate throwing things away. I’m making a rag at the moment from all the old clothes I’ve kept hold of. x

      Thanks Andrea. Your rag sounds awesome and I’m pushed one more step in devouring my husband’s t-shirt pile to make one myself ;)
      I can’t wait to see your rug all finished!

    adorable! I love those bottles, though if I brought them into the house, my kids and husband would O.D. on the stuff.
    your window is thoroughly late winter, looking forward to spring.

    Oh, you are clever! Now I wish I had some of those cute little plastic coke bottles. My cat gets into any greenery he can reach, so flowers tend to be a no-no. This is a lovely solution!

    That is so cool and pretty. You guys have some cool Coke bottles. It seems to me that American companies always export the cooler looking stuff and leave us with the boring. The company probably thinks we couldn’t handle it. They might be right. ;) I love how you upcyled those bottles-awesome! I’ll have to keep my eye open for some round bottles.

    Hi Ella ~ Ok, first of all I LOVE your window decorations and the fact that you see a round Coke bottle and can picture it as an art project. LOVE that creative mindset!!!

    And secondly, thank you so much for your kind words of support and helpful advice for my mom! I will definitely pass the info onto her. I’m going to go to visit her in a couple of weeks, and I want to try reflexology on her while I’m there. GREAT idea! xo
