I agree with you about the false advertising now - so much that's mislabelled or mislead on the ads. So sad.
Well our meals were't all perfectly healthy either - we ate way too much wheat and potatoes! When we were teens for some reason I remember us the kids, luring our mom to buy us Chef Boyardee and Cheez Whiz - Yuck! Be she never wanted to but ended up caving in... (sorry mom) ;D
Oh and yes, do share away ;D
xoxo

Well I think we were the family without resources then ;) But my husband's family was raised completely different and none of the kids were breastfed - I think some 'knowledge' circulated that formula is better. Geezz!
With food though, we still ate too much wheat and potatoes and eating a salad as a meal was unheard off! ;D

Ugh! That's so awful! There are SO many adds like these, back then and still today, that are false advertising, and just lead people to bad overall health. Sadly, I can't say the same about you, when it comes to what I ate growing up. We'd have pasta, with sauces that came in envelopes and we "just added milk or water", or hamburger helper. There were some meals from scratch, but definitely not all.

Thank goodness, my kids are not going to know what these things are! I might have to share some of these adds on my new blog, of you don't mind ;) Never heard of vitamin doughnuts, but I'm sure there were many people that fell for it back then!

These ads are hilarious!! Seriously though, the sheer number of hot dog wieners involved in cookbook recipes during the 70's is shocking. Loving that DDT ad - oh, the "added comfort" provided by sweet, sweet DDT.
I AM going to have to ask the hubby why I never hear "Gosh darling, this is really swell!"... Is it the lack of Campbell's in my home??? ;D
So true, Joann, my mom said breastfeeding was not the norm when I was a baby either. They even gave infant cereal in the hospital at birth!

We had some canned soup, but mostly my mom prepared meals using meat, potato and salad. DDT is good for me? Ouch. And there's a picture of a mom feeding a baby on a DDT ad. So unethical. My mom says that when I was a baby, breastfeeding was considered something that people without resources to buy formula did. She breastfed me for a while anyway. But, then she switched me to 2% milk. She has worried about it ever since. :) I enjoyed your selection of ads.
