tortilla party ~ gluten free and vegan friendly

Ok, so there was more happiness that happened over the weekend. Sure there were cupcakes, but even before that, I was already dancing around laughing in my sombrero ~ having a Tortilla Party! Ok, loose the s0mbrero. And in reality, it wasn’t even a party. But when you give a girl a pack of Gluten Free Tortillas and some SOL veggie burgers and Veggenaise – well a party it sure is!!! (even if it was just me)

So the Mr. goes off to do a little grocery store run, he ran out of coffee! and this is a true disaster in our house. When he comes back, he seriously hands me over the said items – I think I really did jump with excitement because I remembered we had a bunch of ripe avocados and beautiful organic tomatoes waiting for a party too! Around noon, the little one comes back from school (yes, this is still Saturday – she goes 6 days a week because she’s a very smart cookie!) my father-in-law shows up just like that at the door. So we get busy, and have ourselves a Tortilla Party ~ with the sombreros and all!

So this is how carnivores and herbivores party in co-existance! On the table we placed all the ingredients for Vegan and Gluten-Free tortilla wraps as well as some extras for the meat & cheese lovers in our house (yes, we do have some).

THIS IS WHAT I ATE :
THE SUNSHINE TORTILLA WRAP, gluten free and vegan, with veggie burger

  • gluten-free tortillas
  • SOL veggie burger, pan-fried and cut up
  • vegan cheese
  • vegan mayo
  • home-made guacamole
  • diced tomatoes
  • sauteed onions with yellow & orange sweet peppers

THIS IS WHAT THEY ATE :

  • whole wheat tortillas
  • ground beef
  • sauteed mushrooms
  • cheddar cheese
  • mayonaise
  • guacamole
  • tomatoes
  • onions with sweet peppers

Of course, everyone was invited to try the gluten-free tortilla wraps and vegan toppings. My FIL was surprised about the burger and the cheese and they ended up mixing theirs up a bit. In the end ~ quite possibly 2 hours later….. we were full and happy… enjoying the food and company…. and enjoying the sound of the rain outside.

For drinks : I had water with lemon, my daughter had the same but with a little bit of fruit juice added in. The boys had Steam Whistle Beer – an organic beer made by a Canadian microbrewery. My husband’s favourite beer!

Here’s to good unplanned family dinners!

I love those days when we don’t rush to be anywhere and just enjoy good conversation and each other. Happiness.

ps. see if you can spot the tortilla monster who took a piece of my wrap!
