Today is a very exciting day in our house. It’s Saint Nicholas Day ~ and we get to celebrate Christmas early with a little gift that he brings this morning. It’s a tradition celebrated in some cultures, and just like we did when we were growing up, we are enjoying seeing our little girl jumping with joy over the toy that St. Nick will leave under her pillow…. So as the excitement continues in our house, let me jump into a different topic – my late posting of our cute advent calendar.

Honestly I wanted to do something really crafty as I see so many wonderful ideas out there to mark the countdown to Christmas, but realistically I knew it just wasn’t going to happen. I did start a cute alternative to having 24 gifts but I didn’t think this was blog worthy ~ until I saw the real excitement of this through my little 4 year old’s eyes. So maybe it’s not the craftiest project, but it sure is a hit and of course I have to share just in case someone out there has a little kid and still wants to jump on the advent-calendar-bandwagon.

What I used was 1 box and 1 bow and 24 Little Pet Shop and Bratz toys and accessories ~ if you have a youngster in your family, you know this is really HOT stuff! ;) This is of course geared for girls, but any little toys such as Hotwheels would be great for boys around this age.

By the way, do you know the little tip for tying the prefect bow?

To tie the perfect bow, all you need to do is simply arrange the gift you’re going to wrap away from you ~ so you’re seeing it’s back ~ and tie the ribbon upside down. It seems unnatural to tie a bow upside down ~ but this is really as simple as that. You get a perfect bow every time and there’s really no tricks ~ you tie it as you would your shoe strings ~ and then turn around to face you and fix a bit to even the sides and trim the ends.

Now back to my little girl with her presents…. So this is what happens: I put one toy in the box and wrap with ribbon and hide it somewhere in the house. Then upon my daughter’s return from kindergarten we play the Hot and Cold game! This is an insanely fun game and an exciting way to find her gift.

The next day, I re-use the box and ribbon ~ see, told you this was easy ;) and repeat! My daughter kind of thinks there’s wrapped up gifts all over the house from day one – ahhh to see the wonder through the child’s eyes ;)

Here’s a happy Saint Nicholas Day to you ;) Who wouldn’t love an early Christmas present, right? My little girl is getting a Yoda, Star Wars toy ~ don’t ask! lol (cause I can’t even explain that one ;)

By the way, Santa just sent a message for Miss G ~ take a look at this video here. She was in such excitement over this! If you have not heard of Portable North Pole yet – you must set this up for the kids in your family. It is so much fun ;)

ps. I have a lot of things lined up for you this week ~ be sure to visit often for special posts including a giveaway ;) xo

a little more pure love

{seriously, this is the face I started with. oh these grumpy little girls ;P}

I’m totally biased, but this such a cute girl with these balloons! What else is a mom to say, right? Truthfully I just needed to get all my photos up here, all nice and big so that I could keep my own blog open all day long today. Seriously, there was a time I would just shoot and keep these photos from real life viewing and never really bother to go through them and had endless excuses that I had no time.

Blogging is such a great way to stay in the moment and reflect on each day as it happens through emotions, words and of course photographs. Thanks for being here and letting me  enjoy and share what I do.

I am currently doing my photography website and it’s a thrilling project. If you already like what you see and you’re from the GTA location, I would love to capture your moments of pure love ;D

What are you focusing on lately?

ps. can you guess the name of my photography business? I’m giving it away several times in this post ;) xo

family friday : out and about

Hello my friends. Yes, It’s Friday and the most beautiful day today too.

Hopefully we will be spending the day doing exactly what’s in these photos on top. Currently my daughter though has a terrible cough – these springtime viruses – you never know what you’re gonna get. So we’ll see how she’ll do today. At the moment, I am enjoying seeing these photos taken a few weeks ago. I can’t fool you,  the forsythia has long turned to a boring big old bush and the dandelions have set their parachutes on a spreading adventure.

What are you enjoying at the moment? Do share.

Have a lovely weekend! Hopefully my little girl will come around so we can enjoy it. But some gardening, washing the windows and a bbq is in the plans….

What are your plans for the weekend?

another superstar discovered

You may already have heard of this girl – she’s making huge headlines right now! Maria Aragon is a 10 year old Canadian girl who got discovered on YouTube with millions of hits. Eventually it got to Lady Gaga’s hands, she tweeted the video – and boom – she hit the jackpot! Last Thursday she was invited to Toronto to perform with Lady Gaga herself on stage. Amazing right?

Now her sweet video is reaching close to 20 million hits. If you’re curious what this fuss is about – well you should see her talents for yourself! Here is the now very famous Maria Aragon ;)

Here is their duet from March 3rd! Ok, my only thought is that Lady Gaga could have had some clothes on if she was performing with a child ;) Other than than; Way to go Maria for making your dreams come true!

Does this story remind you of someone else making it big? Justin Bieber (another small town Canadian ;) was discovered this exact same way. I was curious of his sweet first video and I looked it up. He is so darn cute ;) Take a look:

Justin Bieber‘s already a superstar so there’s no need to go into details here. But isn’t Maria just amazing. WOW. She’s just naturally perfect – I prefer this over the original 100 times… Way to go Maria! This is probably every little girl’s dream ;) I am looking forward to seeing more of this little ‘monster’ ;) xo

family friday

Kids do grow up so fast and I’m being totally silly today in mentioning that my girl Gabriella turned 3 1/2 this week. I did say silly didn’t I – I’ll add crazy to that too! I blame it all on this horrid mid-winter blahs – and nothing to celebrate. So here she is doing her thing in front of my camera at the big age of three-and-a-half!

I think this was just an excuse for a photoshoot.
(And I’m still in total scare to paint that old frame – I want to squeeze every bit of gold-frame-propping it can give me. It will be white soon – I promise ;))

Back to the celebrating.

I think we might bake some cookies today and have a tea party. Anything to brighten these cold days – so a party it shall be! lol

Here’s a few things about my girl:

- she loves to sing

- loves to show off new dance moves and poses (kind of reminding me of Stewie from SNL ;)

- draws beautifully – like a 4 year old!

- started to read – (I’ve already blabbed about that excitement ;)

- is fully potty trained – even nights! (I hope I won’t jinx that now) but she’s had the diapers off for the nights since the new year. Very proud.

- hates to brush her teeth though

- loves everything purple and is requesting to have our house painted – outside

- wants to be a police officer – all thanks to Sheriff from Cars!

- loves horses, pegasus and can you guess what else… unicorns ;) lol

- loves when mommy takes her to bed and reads and cuddles (I have accepted that 1 hour of my life per day is spent with my girl in my arms)

- she falls asleep with her eyes open! Jeez – no wonder why it takes an hour!

- she’s the coolest person I know ;)

I told you this was silly. This is it for Family Friday sharing from me.

How was your week? Anything you’d like to share?
(write in the comments and I may share your week’s moment next week)
