family day & do tell

Here’s some more photos from our Family Day at the Hot Chocolate Festival just outside the city. We hiked around the woods, grabbed some hot chocolate, checked out the old Canadian Rail train wagon, played tag, climbed some trees, jumped on train tracks, and basked in the beautiful february sunshine…. Wishing every winter day was like that!

This was a sweet day off…. but sometimes I get out of ideas for some wintery fun, sans snow – especially. So I thought I’d seek some more advice….

do tell : how do you take a break?

Hello my dear friends, and hello June. My goodness where has the month of May gone… As it turns out my ‘break’ couldn’t have come at a better time. I needed this so much to just enjoy the beautifully changing season with its many hours spent outdoors in the the fresh air and the warmth of the sun; walks on trails, little bike rides, playful picnics, outdoor meals, gardening, reading, singing, dancing with my girl or just on my own….  It’s so good to slow down once a while and – just do less.

For me especially, ‘doing less’ was really hard to actually ‘do’. I’m a busy girl with several things on the go. Can’t-sit-still kind of a person. So unplugging was a true challenge for my type of character ;)  I feel so good though and relaxed and happy and awakened from this deep bear-sleep. My health is thriving (still keeping up with my own thing). Spring is finally here, (on our side of the border it’s never here on time), and we’ve had a great rise in temperatures which always means great things but #1 is flip flops, #2 is smaller wash loads, and #3 would probably be less cooking and enjoying lighter summery meals ;)

So, my dear friends….

Do you easily find time to slow down and take a little break from your daily activities? Maybe you drop off the kids off at grandma’s once a while just so you could do nothing’? Let me know your ways of doing less. xo

ps. Yes, I wore YELLOW!

do tell : what do you do on a rainy day?

April showers bring May flowers – as the saying goes…. That first sign of a grey sky may bring a few smily faces down, your plans may get cancelled, but once you accept it and welcome it, it can be a very pleasant day anyway.

I find, I love to listen to the rain fall down, there’s something so calming about it to me. I turn up my favourite Whisperings station and together, the sound of the rain with the piano keys create a beautiful melody…

Maybe a few minutes of rain/ piano solitude is blissful, but what to do the rest of the day with kids running around….

Well, this weekend was just that kind of a weekend. It rained, and even snowed – yicks! Making it a very cold April weekend as well – so we knew we were staying home! We had Gabi’s friend come over for the day and we just hung out at home… painting pictures, watching this movie, baking muffins, and even helping paint a room (yes more painting going on in this house), and listened to lots of music and danced and jumped (on a daybed mattress that was brought into the living room), fun! Even I jumped ;) that is a workout ;)

So, do tell my friends, what do you do on a rainy day?

do tell : how do you find more ‘me’ time?

There’s nothing better and relaxing like enjoying a few minutes just for ‘you’. There can be a lot of busy activities intertwined with chaos filling up our days, and when that happens it’s hard for us to hear ourselves breathe sometimes. That’s when a little ‘me time’ is most beneficial and rewarding.

How do you find your half-an-hour of peace?

I have started to set the alarm clock 1/2 hour earlier than my daughter’s wake up time, and that is a great way for me to start the day. It’s a lovely quiet time, so calming and peaceful. I make myself a cup of my morning tea – green usually (or I steep two tea bags into a large cup and have different blends, green with peppermint, green with cranberry…. it can get truly crazy ;) and I sit by my window, drinking my tea, savouring my morning.  Just taking the moment in, breathing… sort of meditating.

Now, especially with the warmth of spring coming our way, it’s been truly blissful. These first warmer mornings, I  open up the windows on my bay window, sit in my stylish rocker and invite the day. I relax, breathe and listen to the morning song of birds and nature.

So, do tell, my friends: How do you find more ‘me’ time?

do tell : what is your sweetest childhood memory?

My friends, we’ve just enjoyed a sweet beautiful Sunday afternoon, just us three. The air was warm and fresh, the sights and sounds bright and cheerful and the laughter was contagious…

The high energy kept on. But we knew we had to slow down and just relax a bit. And slow down we did, with the sweetest thing in the world that just melts in your mouth as soft as a cloud :: oh that cotton candy….

It was miss Gabriella’s first bite of the fluffy sugar in her little 3 1/2 year old life – she was in heaven. As for me, I haven’t tasted cotton candy in over 20 years! My gosh, that thing is sweet, and made me completely sick right after. But boy, did it bring back some childhood memories….

Our family would go to these little church festivities in the summer. And there, amongst the little candy and knick knack stands, was the cotton candy booth…. That’s where I remember my little self, standing in the summer breeze and sunshine – taking bites of the ever evil cotton candy, with my mouth and fingers all sugary and sticky….

So my friends, do tell:
