When I posted a photo with my daughter on yesterday’s post (with Valentine’s wishes), I had a plan. Don’t know if you’re seeing this lately, but speech bubbles are the hottest thing in scrapbooking. So, remember this photo? It is a whole series of speech bubble shots, quick to do and easy to personalize, and best of all it reuses just a piece of cardboard – and I LOVE recyclable projects!
Here is how to make one of those cute speech bubbles. Let me just say it couldn’t be easier and it’s using just a piece of cardboard you would normally throw out. What a great way to use recyclable items. Go Green! ;D
My original idea, was for my daughter to hold the sign in her hands. But, although it’s very light, she didn’t really like the job of doing so. So a quick solution of using masking tape on the back worked great and she just got silly next to the sign so I could snap a few shots ;)
Don’t know if you can tell, but my whole ‘marker’ detail is actually digital. Although my tutorial is to make this speech bubble using a marker which is also doable, you can also do this in several ways.
For a digital speech bubble: all you will need is the cardboard sign, the rest you can write with a black pen or paintbrush tool in either Photoshop, Illustrator or any other drawing program.
For a blank speech bubble: create the cardboard sign and decorate the border only. shoot your photos like that with an empty sign (like I did), then you can add the writings digitally or with a real thin point marker once you print your photos. (this way you can get away with one cardboard sign but create a series of different messages.
This just makes a series of photos look even cuter. It’s great to capture a special day or moment with a little more fun and creativity. And if you scrapbook, this will be fun to add a cool spin on your traditional photos.
I’m not much of a scrapbooker, (I started getting supplies years ago, but never did the real thing… like with a few other things in my life ;) But, then the digital scrapbooking came into town, and I’m a happy girl ;) I still haven’t completed an album (started? YES) but I take my sweet time with getting this done with a million excuses… Well, not anymore, I am compiling a photobook at this very moment and it will be all done very soon, and it has a beautiful digital scrapbooking feel. (I will share how that comes out for sure).
As for the freebie: well here is a blank speech bubble you can use as a layer for a digital scrapbook. If you’re not into that, you can print on plain paper, cut out and then stick onto photos with some double sided tape or glue and write in fun little sayings to your photos. You can position several on a page and print a bunch at a time, if you want to create a whole theme. (This is for personal use only, so if you do show it with a photo on your blog, please link back to me.)
Ok, I’ll let you go now so you can scavenge around for a cardboard box ;) I hope you liked this quick tutorial and will soon be adding a fun twist to your photos with some speech bubbles. Enjoy the freebie also! xo
