our weekend : thanksgiving

We are very very lucky that our Thanksgiving weekend falls early in October – always a beautiful time of the year to have a nice family dinner, share stories and cook up a nice meal. But this year especially, the weather was just incredibly perfect – summery with a hint of a refreshing breeze. Wow, incredibly rare and incredibly well timed for a beautiful holiday wrapped around the idea of giving Thanks. Because, one of the great things we were all thankful for was this beautiful day that we were able to enjoy together with family. Thank you Mother Nature for being so good to us – now you can bring on the real fall! ;) And thanks to my father-in-law for hosting it this year. Doesn’t he have a beautiful yard? I’m in love with that big old plum tree decorated with love with hanging lanterns – it was the perfect spot to set up our desserts after dinner.

I made a scrumptious Pumpkin Pie that I had to seriously convince it really was vegan and gluten-free! I also made a new version of my lentil casserole ~ this time with sweet potatoes and with a European flavour. And my husband made his very famous soup that everyone always raves about –  a Butternut Squash Puree. And rave they did ;)  I loved this stress-free celebrating for a change ;) Not having a working kitchen easily crossed us off the host list. (all recipes coming soon!)

I hope you had a great weekend. And had a great Thanksgiving if you’re in Canada.

(leave a link to yours if you’ve written about it)

Big hugs to you my friends. Thanks for taking a moment to visit me ;) You are loved. xoxo

family friday : first day of JK

This is our highlight from today, and the week, and most likely this whole month. Here is my little one looking all scholarly with those cute ribboned piggy tails as she walks to school ;)

Hello my friends. Like most of you, I have my stomach in knots realizing how time is speeding too quickly. As moms, we hit another milestone as a brand new school year approaches. For you it may be an older child, feeling all grown up, independent and excited. For me, it’s the start of something new as well as this cool month of September has approached – with a lot of excitement as well for all 3 members of the family ;) My little girl is now 4 and today is her first day in junior kindergarten in a real big school ;)

How about you? Are your kids in school or kindergarten? Please share your excitement ;)

What was your highlight this week?

Please do share in the comments. (I’m back to the old FF style – and I will pick one comment to feature next week!)

Have a lovely weekend everyone!

beach necessities : family

We started to take an annual trip to one of the most beautiful beaches in Ontario. As soon as the summer rolls in….I look forward to it even more each time. I love how time stops still when you’re at the beach. I love the fresh air, the soothing sound of the waves splashing and even the sand between my toes…. The walks, sandcastles, splashing, giggling, talking and talking or just sitting silently – listening…. thinking…. The best part is when we’re all together enjoying the beautiful summer days as time completely slows down….

what a weekend

Hello. I hope you had a great weekend my darlings!

Saturday, was a busy day for us with prepping for a party which involved cupcake baking, gift wrapping (of course, as it’s always last minute) all while watching two girls run around the house. Which means it was loud, messy and cheery.

Eventually, we get to my good friend’s house to celebrate a big 5 year old’s birthday. All this, just two streets away – all dressed up in dresses, carrying gifts and a platter of cupcakes walking in pairs.

Once there, everyone relaxes, bears the heat, gets lost in conversation, gets bounced in a huge bouncy castle. Laughter is heard, food is savoured, gluten-free vegan cupcakes get complimented.

It was getting late and not many were in the mood to go home. Latin music filled the house – and we got silly on our dance floor in the middle of the living room, kids included.

I can’t remember the last time I had so much fun and laughed so hard.

Sunday, we had prearranged that miss Gabi goes with my sister for a full day to their friend’s house in London ON. 1 hour away. We got a full day of doing nothing….. just what we needed!

How was your weekend? Please share in the comments, I would love to hear about it. And leave a link if you’ve written about it ;)

xo Here’s to a great week ahead!

(p.s. we all woke up with sniffles this morning (I know where that came from – the darn daycare). Arrr… and we’ve got some nurturing to do today to make it to a big-bouncy-castle party on Saturday! I’m off to make some crazy vitamin-loaded green smoothie! Yum! It better work its magic!)
